On Feb. 25, the Rockville Mayor and Council is scheduled to vote on changes to the MPDU program. If approved, the city will no longer accept or renew applications. Instead, applications will be submitted directly to the MPDU property. More information will follow the meeting.
The City of Rockville manages a Moderately Priced Dwelling Unit (MPDU) program to help provide people looking for affordable rental housing in the city with lower rent levels than typical "market rate" units and those seeking to purchase a home with more affordable prices with the means to do so. When any new residential development with more than 50 units is built in the city, MPDU ordinance requires a developer to rent or sell at least 12.5 percent of the units.
The City of Rockville also partners with Rockville Housing Enterprises to provide affordable housing opportunities at sites throughout the city, offering for-sale housing and rental opportunities to qualified candidates.
MPDU Program Eligibility
Basic eligibility criteria to participate in the MPDU program include:
- Household income must be at least $22,000. Savings may supplement annual income.
- Non U.S. citizens may apply
- New and existing MPDU participants must apply for a certificate every two years
The city recognizes certificates from the Montgomery County MPDU program and issues a Rockville certificate to participate in the city's program. To transfer your county certificate to the city, complete the Montgomery County MPDU Certificate Holder Application (PDF) form and submit the first page of your lease or County MPDU certificate to the city.
Household income maximum limits are based on gross household income per year. Family size includes dependents claimed on submitted federal tax forms.
